Laughter

"Laughter is the best medicine," they said but at the same time when I laughed, they disapproved in a way. Recently I remember children playing at a public place, laughing and talking loudly as they do, and a random woman telling them to be silent while I was just smiling looking at the joy they were thriving in. Even children are not free to laugh I noticed instantly.
Laughter has got so many proven benefits from lifting the mood to strengthening immunity. Stuck emotions get healed with laughter and a sense of pleasantness is achieved. You can even see laughter as a common practice included in Yoga these days. People are doing Humour therapies these days. Watching comedy shows is a favorite activity for everyone. Just google the benefits of laughter and you can be busy in reading those for the next 2 days.
Personally, I love to joke and laugh freely most of the time. There was a time when I was called "Laughing Buddha" by some people. I ended up in a mess somehow as life turned around totally for me. But now when I look back, I realize what a great time it was. The best is yet to come of course.
With time I realized the problems we have in the society around laughter. It is not allowed to laugh freely in social situations. And I always question, "why?" What's wrong with that? I believe Nature taught us laughter and She knows how to do Her job, right? But we are taught if we don't think, talk, laugh or act in a certain way, others would consider it wrong or even offensive. We would be regarded as "weird." But I believe we all have the right to be "weird," I call it "Unique."
Who included joking and laughing in the concepts of "morality?" How a person who laughs less is more "moral" than those who don't?
As per the studies, children laugh between 300 to 400 times a day while adults laugh 4 to 15 times a day. Why don't adults laugh frequently?
Even in our imagination, does God laugh? I think He just smiles. Does devil laugh? Hell yes. Here's the root against the laughter I guess. God or even saints are not allowed to laugh by our collective mind. It's the devil who is known for that. Isn't it? So we have this unconscious idea that much laughter in life might make us look bad. That's what I can think of at least. There must be other reasons too, but I'm not interested in all that. What I'm interested in is to question our resistance that is built towards laughter.
I never ever support laughing at someone on any discriminatory basis. There are healthy ways to joke and laugh with everyone and I support and promote that. Since these days a serious virus is going around, so I would even suggest taking all the necessary precautions.
All I promote is to let us break all the stereotypes that we have built around laughter and leave all the unnecessary resistance that the society has created around it. I welcome you to look for the things that make you smile and laugh. And SMILE AND LAUGH. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't. Lose yourself a little bit to a joke going around. Whoever is reading this just know that I love your smile. Nature celebrates your laughter. Good luck and have fun.
